- Your team will design and construct an electric house with separate series, parallel, and complex circuits.
- The house will consist of one or two stories. Each house will contain at least the following areas: one bedroom, one bathroom or garage, a kitchen, a front door, and a living room/dining room area.
- Each individual room will be illuminated by its own light.
- Your building is to be decorated neatly and: - should reflect the purpose of the room (i.e. a refrigerator should not be in a bedroom) - all inside surfaces of your box (walls, floors, etc.) must be covered - some kind of 3D objects (tables, chairs, beds, etc) must be present in each room - you may not use premade furniture, toys, people, Legos, etc. Everything must be made for this project. - all outside surfaces of your box must be covered; the outside should match the purpose of the building
- Each house will be wired with 4 different circuits as follows:
- -A single outside light with a switch
-The living room area must have a "chandelier" with at least two lights in a SERIES CIRCUIT with a switch.
- The house must have one PARALLEL CIRCUIT consisting of a switch and at least three lights.
- The house must have one COMBINATION CIRCUIT consisting of two switches and at least three lights.
- The use of the motor is open-ended, that is, you will incorporate the motor in the house in a creative manner. Some ideas are: an elevator, a ceiling fan or a garage door.
- - Switches can be made from brads and paper clips. (see video below)
- - Your house will be powered by AAA, AA, D, or 9V batteries so make an obvious two leads to attach your battery to during testing if you do not supply your own batteries. You will need to use the AA, D, and 9V in at least one circuit of your house. (You may not use the same battery for every circuit in your house.)
- - Each circuit must be able to work independently from the other.
- - Insulated wire and lights will be provided.
- - You will have access to scissors, wire cutters and wire strippers.
- You must provide one diagram for the complete circuit in your building. It must: - be labeled and be complete including all electrical parts for each circuit - use accurate circuit symbols - be neat & drawn with a straight edge ruler - fill an entire piece of paper
