Should you be absent, it is YOUR responsibility to:
I will be available during by appointment. Appointments must be made for additional assistance before school or after school. Students are encouraged to visit the Homework Center. Parents and students may reach me via email at: [email protected]. Email is preferred.
*PARENTS: Please check PowerSchool often to monitor your child's progress.
Should you be absent, it is YOUR responsibility to:
- Pick up missing assignments (located in the your class pocket in the Absent file folder)
- You have the number of days you were gone to complete Absent work. (This does NOT include making up missed tests or quizzes.)
- Quizzes/exams must be made up within the number of days you were absent plus one. Any not made up by this time will have missed their makeup time and receive a “0”.
- If students are out for more than 3 days, I recommend the parent/guardian send a homework request by calling the guidance office.
- Students MUST be present in class and participate in the class activity to receive participation points. Unexcused absences result in a loss of participation points. No Exceptions!
- Expect to have homework every night. If no assignment is given, it is understood that you are expected to review the notes of that day or previous assignments.
- You will create interactive notebooks for this class. You are expected to bring it everyday.
- Late work will be NOT be accepted. Homework will be spot checked. Homework will be worth anywhere from 0-25 points. No name = No credit
- You must be in the classroom by the END of the tardy bell; failure to do so will result in a tardy. The tardy policy in Physics is listed below:
- Tardy 1= teacher intervention & student conference
- Tardy 2= teacher intervention & parent letter home
- Tardy 3=tardy reflection form/parent letter home
- Tardy 4 & beyond=Referral to Deans
- It is your benefit to maintain an organized composition notebook of notes, vocabulary, and homework. Bonus points can be earned on organization. Notebooks will be collected and graded every nine (9) weeks. If you should be absent when notes were given get them from somebody responsible upon your return and check the class website.
- This Physics classroom has a class set of iPads, which will be used quite often during class. You will be assigned a certain iPad, and this iPad will be yours during class. You are responsible for the iPad while it is taken out during class.
- Personal devices are NOT allowed during class lectures and activities. They may be used FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES when the green cell phone sign is displayed.
- Headphones may be used when directed in class.
- Calculators are available to be borrowed. Your school ID is necessary as collateral for the calculator.
- Anytime technology is used for academic dishonesty/cheating on tests or quizzes, you will receive a “0”, and a parent note will be sent home.
- Expect to participate in lab activities. Follow all safety procedures when performing a lab. ANY safety violation will result in "0" points on a lab assignment and possible expulsion from the class. You must be present in order to receive class participation points on your lab write up. If you are absent on the day of a lab activity, you may not make up the lab (some exceptions may apply). You must get any notes or information for the lab because you are still responsible for that information.
- There will be typically be an alternate writing assignment. It is your responsibility to get and complete the alternate assignment within in 3 school days. SEE ME!
- STEM Projects are a form of lab activity. They will be completed individually, with a partner, or with a group. To get participation points, you must cooperate and perform your assigned duty within the group. Choose your partners wisely for projects; you will sink and swim together. Absences during a STEM project will result in an alternate writing/research assignment or additional out of class time in order to earn back participation points.
- Physics is a difficult course due to the amount of reading, memorization, and MATH that is required. There may be math that you will be learning simultaneously in your math class. Keep up with the reading and note taking.
- Do not whine or complain about the amount of assignments, projects, and notes you will have to complete. As a high school student (an institute of "higher learning"), you are expected to learn a wide variety of topics and manage your time. The goal of school is to give each student a well-rounded education so that they may be successful after graduation, whether that means going to college or getting a job.
- Stay organized. The volume of information and handouts you will receive may be tremendous and overwhelming. You are expected to keep track of your own assignments, be prepared for tests, and know important due dates.
- Copying another person’s work before class, during class, or after class will constitute cheating. Cheating will give you and the person you copied from ZERO points. NO EXCEPTIONS!
- MOST IMPORTANTLY: Be open and honest with your parents/guardians. They have an invested interest in you becoming successful in life.
